BILL SCOTT, VP ENGINEERING, PAYPAL & VENMO
Bill was VP of Venmo Engineering, PayPal Consumer Engineering, Identity & Next Gen Commerce. It is an interesting journey leading engineering teams for an established S&P 100 fintech company as well as one of the hottest fintech startups in the U.S. Before PayPal, Bill created and led the User Interface Engineering organisation at Netflix and was Technology & Design Evangelist at Yahoo. STAYING A FINTECH STARTUP
In this talk, Bill shared his unique perspective from his time at Netflix as well as his experience in transforming a 15+ year old established fintech company to act like a startup and keeping an acquired startup acting like one. The goal was to distill learnings from the over 30 years of working with teams to create great customer experiences. These learnings are applicable in any field, but there are specific learnings he shared from both the entertainment industry and the payment industry.
TOM BLOMFIELD, CEO & CO-FOUNDER, MONZO
Tom is the CEO/Co-Founder of Monzo, a new kind of bank, designed for smartphones. Tom previously founded GoCardless, a fintech startup that has gone on to raise $25m. In 2013, he was nominated as one of the Top 5 Entrepreneurs Under 30 by the European Commission. He gives talks regularly about the future of banking and fintech.
BUILDING A SMARTPHONE BANK
In less than 3 years, Monzo has become a fully-licensed UK bank, with technology systems built from scratch in-house. Tom talked about their journey so far.
MARIE STEINTHALER, HEAD OF NEW PRODUCTS, ZOPA
Marie is Head of New Products at Zopa, the fintech pioneer that invented peer-to-peer lending. Her previous experience spans almost 10 years of growing early stage businesses, including leading marketing at kids TV app company Hopster, now a global hit with preschool parents - and their kids. She is passionate about to create compelling experiences by combining user empathy with great technology and a level of emotional engagement that takes a product from good to great.
Why we're launching a bank
Zopa, the world's first peer-to-peer lender, recently announced their plans to launch a next-generation bank. Marie taled about what went into this decision and how Zopians are delivering on this ambitious mission while continuing to grow their profitable peer-to-peer business.
